Part 2 of the Interview with Rob:

‘Twilight’: Will the Movie Be a Hit?

Posted on November 6th, 2008 Under General | Poste by Annie Comments Off

*scans wanted*

Will fans find the film true to the novel? Will even one male go see it? Will the filmmakers get the go-ahead to make ”New Moon”? What does Stephenie Meyer think about all this? Some answers to these burning questions

The last thing the filmmakers behind Twilight want to hear is that their movie is the next Harry Potter. Sure, it occupies the release date once held by the boy wizard. But while the seven-book Potter series has sold 400 million copies and generated $4.5 billion in worldwide box office receipts, Twilight is working off a global fan base that has purchased only 17 million books. ”We’re not even 5 percent of Potter sales. We’re not even a toenail on that body,” says director Catherine Hardwicke. ”Ours is a character film, a little more sophisticated teenage Romeo and Juliet.”

But Twilight is likely to be anything but a tragedy for Summit Entertainment, the fledgling studio behind the film. So far in the company’s 18-month history, it has released five movies, with nothing grossing over $25 million; some, such as Sex Drive, have been outright failures. Twilight — a possible four-film franchise — could transform Summit into a real player. To hit it big, though, the vampire romance needs to lure moviegoers beyond the series’ core fans. Teenage boys are an obvious target, and Hardwicke has peppered her film with gravity-defying fight scenes. ”There are action sequences in the book, and as a director, you want to make everything more cinematic,” she says.

EW: We want your questions for Taylor Lautner!

Posted on November 4th, 2008 Under General | Poste by Annie Comments Off

Attention Team Jacobers: We haven’t forgotten about you! Sure, we’re interviewing Twilight’s Edward Cullen (Robert Pattinson), but we know how to play fair. We’re also having a sit down this week with everyone’s favorite wolfboy, Taylor Lautner, and we need all your hair-raising questions. Want to know how Sharkboy and Jacob are similar? Been wondering how the 5’9” Lautner will be able to fill the shoes of the almost-seven-foot behemoth Jacob becomes? Or just curious what the black belt likes to do in his spare time (you know, aside from karate)? Leave your questions in the comments section below (please include your city and state), then come back soon to watch our video Q&A, and see if yours made the cut.

You can ask your questions in the comments at the PopWatch/EW Site

Twilight Soundtrack Review

Posted on November 2nd, 2008 Under General | Poste by Annie Comments Off

The big-screen adaptation of Stephenie Meyer’s sexy-vampire saga could have gone the classic heart-of-darkness route (Bauhaus, where art thou?). Instead, they’ve tapped Alexandra Patsavas, the music supervisor behind The O.C., Grey’s Anatomy, and Gossip Girl, and she aptly applies her zeitgeisty sensibility to the Twilight soundtrack, pulling exclusive cuts from acts like Paramore (singer Hayley Williams is a confessed superfan of the series) and MuteMath. The disc begins with epic Brit-rockers Muse’s excellently grandiose “Supermassive Black Hole,” from their 2006 release Black Holes and Revelations, followed by Paramore’s “Decode,” in which Williams forsakes the band’s bouncier punk-pop sound for a more sprawling, Evanescence-like romanticism (see also: “I Caught Myself,” a more rocking addition later on the album). Other standouts? U.K. electronic duo Black Ghosts, whose “Full Moon” is a woozy, feat of otherworldly melody, MuteMath’s shuddering, hand-clappy rocker “Spotlight (Twilight Mix),” the always-lovely acoustic folkie Iron & Wine’s “Flightless Bird, American Mouth,” and pretty piano closer “Bella’s Lullaby,” from composer Carter Burwell.

Smartly (since the film is, for all its supernatural trappings, essentially a love story) Patsavas’s soundtrack provides plenty of fist-pumping moments but far more that are just plain swoony. A-
